Is Wild Commons for you?

Wild Commons is for people ready to take responsibility for their own learning and wellness. You'll feel at home here if you:

  • can comfortably manage a 3 km hike in the bush, in any season

  • enjoy shared tasks such as firekeeping

  • are open to sharing accommodation, food, your knowledge, and your story

  • are comfortable in a semi off-grid setting

Our model is a rare one. Individual needs are addressed as a collective, so the learning compounds. Connection to others, nature, self, and Source carries healing further than any of us could go alone.

It works best for those who arrive open to it.

How it works

  1. Tell us about yourself. Contact with a little about you and the immersion that interests you. We'll reply to confirm the fit, then send your forms, the waiver, and a time for your preliminary conversation.

  2. Your preliminary conversation. In the week or two before the immersion, you speak privately with Lisa by phone about what you've carried, what you're experiencing, and where you want to go.

  3. Sessions shaped by the group. Those conversations shape the sessions, which are varied and tailored to the people attending. You receive 12 hours of teaching across the three days.

  4. Your starting numbers. On day one you take a few simple measures, such as grip strength, balance, blood pressure, and your own ratings of sleep and stress. Your individual results are yours alone, and only anonymous group averages are shared.

  5. Learning together. Sessions are held in our wood-heated gathering space, and guided excursions, shared tasks, and time around the fire carry the learning out into the landscape.

  6. Your numbers again. Before you leave, you repeat the measures and take home a simple plan.

  7. Your follow-up. About a month later, you have a private follow-up session with Lisa, with a short check-in at 90 days.

A typical day

Days run from 10 am to 8 pm and are full but unhurried. The 12 hours of teaching are spread through them, with plenty of room to rest.

  • Morning: Your own breakfast and self-guided time

  • 10 am: Opening session

  • Noon: Potluck lunch at the shared table

  • Afternoon: A guided excursion and a second session, with breaks

  • Early evening: Your own dinner and time to rest

  • Evening: Fireside circle, closing by 8 pm

The setting

Wild Commons is semi off-grid, and that is part of the experience. Think winter camping with a warm cabin and a wood stove.

We are near Callaghan's Rapids, roughly midway between Ottawa and Toronto and about 45 minutes north of Belleville. You park on the mainland and carry your belongings with assistance over the foot bridge and up to 500 feet away.

  • Accommodations: There are several styles of accommodation across four spaces, all shared. Toilets are composting toilets or outhouses, depending on the season, and there is no running water in the sleeping quarters.

  • Warmth: Cabins and gathering spaces are heated by wood, and firewood is supplied. Keeping the fires going is a shared task.

  • Shared kitchen: The kitchen has electricity, running water, one oven, and one fridge. Dishes, cutlery, and glasses are provided.

  • Gathering space: Sessions are held indoors in our shared gathering space.

  • Library: A peaceful space for reading, meditation, and quiet work, with internet.

  • Wi-Fi: Available in the kitchen, the gathering space, and one of the cabins.

  • Washing: There are no showers in winter. The kitchen sink can be used for personal washing outside meal hours. When the cabins are kept warm, water is available there for basic washing and brushing teeth.

Food

Food is yours to bring, and it is part of how we come together.

  • Your own meals: Pack what you know nourishes you for breakfasts and dinners over the three days.

  • The potluck: Bring three dishes to share, one for each noon table.

  • What we suggest: Real food that is unprocessed and low in refined sugar.

  • Keeping it simple: With one oven and one fridge between us, a cooler and dishes that need little reheating work best.

  • Allergies: Tell us about any allergies when you register, so we can let the group know before the potluck.

Your investment

Your investment is $650 CAD. It covers:

  • 12 hours of tailored teaching

  • two private one-to-one sessions, one before and one after the immersion

  • your before-and-after measures and a personal plan

  • guided excursions

  • three nights of shared accommodation

Food, bedding, towels, toiletries, and weather-appropriate clothing are not included.

Booking and cancellation

  • Payment: Full payment is due by the registration closing date for your immersion.

  • Small by design: Each immersion runs with 6 to 12 guests. If we haven't reached 6 by the registration closing date, the immersion is cancelled and you receive a full refund.

  • If you need to cancel: Before the registration closing date, simply contact and receive a full refund. After it, no refund is provided, but your fee may be applied to a future immersion or another service, depending on availability.

  • Weather: If a weather warning or road closure makes your drive unsafe, let us know. You may arrive once the roads clear, or join the indoor sessions online and receive a 50% refund. If we must cancel an immersion because of weather, you choose between a full refund and a place on a later date.

  • Age: All guests must be 18 or older.

What to bring

Pack for the season, the bush, and simple shared living.

  • Warm layers, waterproof outerwear, and boots suited to a 3 km hike

  • Indoor shoes or slippers

  • Bedding and towels

  • A headlamp or flashlight

  • A refillable water bottle, as there is no running water in the sleeping quarters

  • Your own meals and your dishes to share

  • Toiletries and any prescribed medication

  • A notebook and pen

  • Anything that adds to your comfort

Cold water immersion: In November and December, a dip in the river is possible for those who wish. It is entirely optional, never done alone, and depends on your health form. Bring wool clothing and an extra towel if you'd like to take part.

Good to know

  • Waiver: Every guest signs a waiver before attending.

  • Health form: This is comprehensive. It helps us tailor your sessions and keep you safe on the trail, and it is seen only by your educator.

  • Your medical care: Wild Commons complements, and does not replace, your medical care.

  • Substances: Wild Commons is free of alcohol, cigarettes, vaping, and non-prescribed drugs.

  • Confidentiality: What is shared in the group stays in the group. Your one-to-one conversations and your personal measures are private.

Your educator

Lisa Torres teaches people to understand what their bodies, minds, and spirits need. Her approach is education and connection: to nature, self, others, and Source.

She holds a Diploma of Heilkunst and Homeopathy Practitioner (2012) from the Hahnemann College of Heilkunst. Heilkunst is German for "the art of healing," and the program involved more than 4,000 hours of study in the principles of wellness and disease, mind-body-spirit interaction, lifestyle, nutrition, fitness, pharmacology, and homeopathy. She has been serving clients since 2012. To help her clients understand family dynamics, she penned Upon A Beam of Moonlight. Lisa was awarded a municipal grant for innovation and promise in collaborative health care. Since 2024 she has collaborated with the fledgling Emergent American College to make the principles of wellness accessible and understandable to many. She has been an educator about the BioLonreco natural supplement lines for over a decade, maintains her open-domain homeopathic pharmacy, and is honored to distribute high-quality Living Fuel and Best365 products. She has enjoyed public speaking at various events including at the Ottawa East-West Connection, Ontario Homeschool Conference, Soulshine Festivals, the Collective Continuum, and others. Her interests include research, all stages of womanhood, children, performance and longevity, and the meeting point of wellness and learning, spirituality, law, and financial self-determination.

Depending on the needs of the group, Lisa may invite colleagues to enrich an immersion.

Lisa was a regulated homeopath in Ontario from 2015 to 2021. She is no longer a registrant of the College of Homeopaths of Ontario and does not hold herself out as a homeopath.
